This two day training is geared
towards any adult interested in setting up a program or who
will be training youth to become peer educators on tobacco,
drugs, violence prevention, alcohol and other health related
issues, co-facilitators of support groups, peer counselors,
peer tutors, peer mediators, peer helpers, etc. |
|
It is also designed to help participants decide
which components they need at their sites, and then provide them
with concrete "nuts and bolts" skills and information
specific to their needs and the needs of their students and schools
or communities in order to implement a successful program.
During the past 30 years, I have trained over
2,000 adults to establish and operate peer helping programs. People
will leave my training with a "plan of action" and I ensure
that they have the skills necessary to recruit, train, supervise
and motivate their peer helpers.
In this workshop you will:
• Develop a site plan for starting your
programs
• Experience a student-training curriculum
to teach helping skills that include non-verbal communication, listening,
paraphrasing, question asking, decision making, and others
• Learn how to select and recruit students
for a successful program
• Learn how to get support for your program.
